He Makes Me

he makes me wish
i was the kind of girl
who loves sports
all those things that end in ball
the girl
who shyly admits she is a
tomboy
long blond pony
tail swatting flies
under a sports cap
she eats hot dogs and
wipes the ketchup away
with the back of her hand
her cheer
and cusses
fill the stadium
and he looks at her
like he would look at
a girl who likes sports
maybe they were best friends for years
or he met her in some romantic way
and was shocked to learn that
she is not like me
I do not look good in caps
yell those cuss words
or even eat meat
i will be his wife who stays home
while he takes the kids to the big game
I will be the wife who reads books that were
written by men who do not watch sports
they come home excited and tell me about
innings and field goals and mascots
they give me a t-shirt with the name of that team
for mothers day
this t-shirt is later used as my floor scrubbing shirt

maybe we shouldn't go on another date
